ON Semiconductor Awards Over $267k in Grants to 15 Nonprofits Globally

Part of the community impact work that ON Semiconductor supports is through its Global Corporate Giving (GCG) Program, which strategically leverages our resources, talent and efforts to support nonprofits and educational institutions. 

Each year, we fund projects and programs in order to create social value and maximize our impact on communities through workplace giving and community grants. In 2018, we invested over $2 million USD to support of communities worldwide.

Our GCG Program is maintained by a network of committee members who represent each of our sites and serve as ambassadors for the program.

In Q2 2019, the team approved grant funding for the following organizations:

Save the Family Foundation of Arizona 

The funds will better support homeless and impoverished children via the charity’s Youth Enrichment and Achievement (YEA!) after-school program in Arizona. This program allows youth to explore various career and educational opportunities and is available to more than 800 children each year.
 

This grant will fund their "Backpack Program," which supplies backpacks filled with food items to students at 20 North Phoenix schools. The food provided in the backpacks is intended to offer breakfast, lunch and snack items to children for the weekend to replace the food provided by the school during the week.

Free Arts for Abused Children of Arizona 

This grant will allow the charity to continue to bring trauma-informed creative arts programming to 27 abused and/or homeless children free of charge in Arizona.

 
This financial contribution supported the organization with bringing STEM exhibits out into the community for the children to tinker and engineer with in Idaho.
 
Education Foundation for West Ada School District (Renaissance High School’s Technology Student Association) 
 
The Technology Student Association (TSA) enhances personal development, leadership and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), whereby members apply and integrate these concepts through activities, competitions and related programs. With ON Semiconductor's help, Renaissance High School students in Idaho were able to participate in TSA’s national conference this year.

Southern Arizona Research, Science and Engineering Foundation 

ON Semiconductor provides funding for this charity’s K-12 Education and Outreach program in Title 1 and/or low-income schools at no charge in the Phoenix area, which helps to improve STEM education and supports critical thinking and problem solving skills.

 
With these monies, the Valley of the Sun YMCA in Phoenix will grow its after-school programs and summer day camps with STEM-related activities and support “Mad Science” field trips for 15 branches.
 
 
ON Semiconductor's funded science summer camp scholarships for young women at Wilkes University in Pennsylvania in partnership with the Science, Math and Computer Science departments.

Magic Wheelchair

With this funding, the Magic Wheelchair Community Education program (which builds costumes for children in wheelchairs – charity based in Oregon) will expand the opportunity for serving children with disabilities by teaching educators to lead ‘build’ teams with their students.

 
Through our support, the charity is living its vision to become the voice of premature babies and hospitalized babies in Romania. Annually, 18,000 premature babies are born in Romania and with this grant, the Association will provide health guidance, services and educational programs for this population through working with regional emergency hospital.
 
 
ON Semiconductor’s support will assist with strengthening this Belgium school’s STEM activities and reinforcing both science learning and technology usage through the purchase of adapted materials such as tablets, cameras, laptops, microscopes, binoculars, etc.
 
 
This grant will support the charity’s LabVenture experience, where 5th and 6th graders from Maine take on the role of scientists and conduct their own hands-on research in the Cohen Center for Interactive Learning, for free.
 
 
With our help, the agency was able to purchase two twin bikes, which will be used for patients experiencing young onset dementia (and their families) to break free from their isolation and find new challenges that give them energy, confidence and self-esteem in Belgium.
 
 
Orbis’ mission is to eliminate avoidable blindness in developing countries and with our company’s support in Vietnam, a Vision Center will be developed in Dong Nai General Hospital as well as screening and referral mechanisms will be established to help children and adults to access refractive services.
 
 
Bending Bamboo is a part of IEEE Foundation’s Smart Village umbrella/priority, which has a mission to “empower off-grid communities through education and the creation of sustainable, affordable, locally owned entrepreneurial energy businesses. This funding will support two Vietnamese educational and sustainability policies by growing bilingualism by 2025 and embedding the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in public school curricula by 2030.

Also, the GCG Program aims to create a relationship of mutual trust and respect between the company and the local communities in which we operate through philanthropy and volunteerism. And through our community involvement, we also want our employees to be proud of what they do and where they work.
