Fighting the illegal tobacco trade

The illegal trade in tobacco is a global problem that cheats governments out of some £30 billion each year in taxes. It involves criminal gangs producing counterfeit cigarettes, cross-border smuggling and large-scale tax evasion.

At BAT, we invest more than £50 million each year in the fight against the illegal tobacco trade. This addresses a threat to our business, while also helping to fight organised crime and preventing smokers from getting access to unregulated tobacco products.
