Leading Utilities’ CEOs Present Long-Term Plans to Investors at 7th CEO Investor Forum
CECP’s Strategic Investor Initiative (SII) hosts the seventh CEO Investor Forum in Chicago, with long-term plan presentations by the CEOs of American Electric Power (AEP) and Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG) to institutional investors. The event will also feature an Executive Workshop for investor relations, corporate social responsibility, and sustainability professionals to strategize together on the development of long-term investor facing plans at their companies. Previous CEO Investor Forums have featured the CEOs of nearly 30 companies, such as Allstate, IBM, Unilever, and Voya Financial.

Strategic Investor Initiative Releases New Framework for Companies Seeking to Develop Long-Term Plans
Building on a significant body of original research and ongoing feedback from institutional investors, CECP’s Strategic Investor Initiative (SII) has released a template for companies seeking to develop and communicate effective long-term strategic plans that help inform investment, voting, and engagement decisions. According to buy-side investors, the long-term should be described in terms of goals, metrics, and milestones, to enable a deeper understanding of the strategy and to track progress as it is implemented.

CECP’s Strategic Investor Initiative (SII) announced that the CEOs of AmerisourceBergen, APTIV PLC, Equinix, JetBlue Airways, and Nestlé S.A. will present their company’s long-term plans to institutional investors at the CEO Investor Forum on February 25, 2019 in New York City. The presentations will follow a keynote panel discussion on megatrends with the CEOs of Medtronic and Siemens US, and the former CEO of Aetna, moderated by the CEO of Johnson & Johnson.

Stock Market Reactions to Long-Term Plans Measured for First Time
Institutional investors act when they hear how companies will create value over the long-term. In a new study, The Economic Significance of Long-Term Plans published by KKS Advisors and CECP’s Strategic Investors Initiative (SII), an abnormal change in market returns and an increase in trade volume is observed after that company’s CEO presented a long-term plan to institutional investors. This is the first time the reaction to a CEO-presented long-term plan has been quantified and is early evidence that the audience of institutional investors find the information in these presentations decision-relevant.

Institutional investors want to hear more from CEOs about how they are positioning their company to succeed in the long-term, according to a new paper released by CECP’s Strategic Investor Initiative (SII), Emerging Practice in Long-Term Plans. According to investors, when presenting long-term plans, CEOs need to go deeper than just telling a good marketing story. Instead, they need to demonstrate that the company’s leadership understands how long-term issues impact value creation and has developed a strategy to mitigate risks and ensure sustainable business practices.
