While many civic leaders, businesses and entrepreneurs have positioned Detroit for the comeback we are now witnessing, the next great frontier is education.

A number of banks and philanthropic partners, led by The Kresge Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, KeyBank and Goldman Sachs, have committed more than $70 million to launch the Strong Families Fund, the largest pilot pay-for-performance project to finance social services coordination and quality, affordable housing for low-income families.

On recent routine United States Public Health inspections conducted by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Holland America Line’s ms Noordam achieved a perfect score of 100, marking the ship’s second consecutive perfect score, and ms Veendam also scored 100. Additionally, Veendam earned a near-perfect score of 99 on an inspection conducted by Health Canada.

In the past several decades, there has been a dramatic demographic shift in the workforce. Not only do women now make up almost half of the workforce, but there are more pregnant workers than ever before and they are working later into their pregnancies. According to the National Partnership for Women & Families, holding a job during pregnancy is more common than at any other time in history. In a recent survey, 61 percent of respondents reported being employed during pregnancy. More families depend on women's income than ever before. According to the Pew Research Center, women are the primary or sole breadwinners in nearly 40 percent of families with children.

The countdown is officially on for the 2015 Corporate Citizenship Conference, in Washington, DC on October 5-7. This year's event, Connect the Dots: How Businesses Solve Global Challenges Locally will convene today's top business experts and innovators. Speakers will focus on how businesses build engagements that align local impact to global strategy and will showcase successful business examples.
