3rd Annual ICV Conference: Revisiting 2011 & A Preview of What's to Come

CDC Development Solutions’ 3rd Annual International Corporate Volunteerism Conference is just 2 months away. We are hard at work confirming a great line up of speakers and sponsors in the public and private arenas. With this year’s expanded agenda, the Conference will include interactive sessions that will look at how different companies derive business value from ICV programs. This includes linking ICV into your core business, integrating HR and leadership development into an ICV program, learning the public relations and media strategies of industry experts, as well as an update on the Center for Excellence in International Corporate Volunteerism (CEICV) and an intro to the Global Health Fellows Program II.

In wrapping up the million and one details that go into making a conference successful, we took a moment to talk with a few of last year’s attendees. Grameen FoundationPepsiCo, and Dow Corning shared insight and advice for those of you attending this year.

Last year, I found it fascinating to see all of the different ICV models that are out there. Each company does such a great job of designing a program that fits their specific business, industry, CR objectives and employees' desires.  It was great to have all of these examples in one place where we could really see what we thought would work for us and pick out components that we wanted to incorporate into our own program.

This year, I'm really looking forward to sharing our learnings from our pilot year since everyone gave us such great advice last year. I'm also looking forward to learning more about how other companies expand and measure their programs.

One thing that I learned is that International Corporate Volunteerism can be structured to meet multiple needs of international companies: employee development, reputation and relationship development, and insight for future business growth. There is no better opportunity for rapid learning than immersing yourself in an unfamiliar environment, in a way that is positive, structured, and safe.
