In celebration of World Water Day, Nestlé Waters North America has announced that its remaining two factories in California, Cabazon and Los Angeles, have received certification against the rigorous Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) Standard.
All five of the company’s water bottling facilities in California are now certified to the AWS Standard, a priority outlined by Nestlé Waters in late 2017.

The City of Lakewood, California, hired Tetra Tech to design a new stormwater capture project that will improve water quality in the Los Cerritos Channel by removing pollutants conveyed within stormwater. The project consists of an air-inflated rubber dam diversion system to re-direct all runoff from the channel through a pre-treatment system to remove trash, debris, and sediment.

In late January, Virginia's James River was well above flood stage because of several weeks of rainy weather. Sumba Island in East Nusa Tenggara province, Indonesia is possibly the driest area in the country. Sumba has a dry season that lasts for nine months. In East Sumba, the Ministry of Forestry estimates that 80 percent of the land is in critical condition owing to most of its forest being felled before the turn of the millennium. The Indonesian Rural Economic Development (IRED) project has been helping local communities rehabilitate their degraded land through farmer-managed natural regeneration and agroforestry. IRED is led by Wahana Visi Indonesia in collaboration with the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) and Lutheran World Relief.
