Subaru of America and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) wrapped up their June initiative, Subaru Loves to Care, which literally brought warmth and hope to thousands of patients fighting cancer across the country.

Elżbieta, from Warsaw, is a teacher of both biology and natural science, working in two different schools. She has 25 years' experience and is responsible for the education of students between the ages of 13 and 19.

At Amgen San Francisco, staff have formed a “tight knit circle.” This group of dedicated and talented volunteers is making hats and scarfs for Caps for Kids, an organization that provides hats for children facing life-threatening illnesses. Whether working at home or in their knitting circles, the team is making a big difference in the lives of children.

Although in the past the Olympics presented an opportunity for companies to share their commitments to society and the environment with a global audience, so far, many have commented on the surprising dearth of campaigns this year. Yet, in the midst of a complex Olympic environment, a few companies have stepped forward to leverage their involvement for social or environmental good in Rio and beyond. Here's a quick snapshot:

To celebrate 150 years of Good Food, Good Life we're taking our birthday spirit to the communities where we operate. On August 4th, our#Nestlé150for150 event involved 150+ employee volunteer events across the United States including food banks, river clean ups, animal care, education support and fitness competitions. Our signature event was a fitness competition at the historic Rose Bowl stadium, led by Olympic champions Jackie Joyner-Kersee and Gail Devers.

Mississippi is well known for its natural beauty. But over the years, the amount of native wildflowers has dwindled because of the common threats of habitat loss and invasive plants.

To celebrate the completion of young people’s summer employment through Houston Hire Youth and the local launch of the ServiceWorks program, Volunteer Houston, Points of Light, the City of Houston and the Houston Independent School District are pleased to announce a ServiceWorks Skill-Building Bootcamp on August 6, 2016 from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm at Carnegie Vanguard High School.

This high-energy, immersive experience for 150+ Houston-area young adults between the ages of 16 – 24, will give participants an introduction to how service can be a next step on their pathway to college and career, while inspiring young people to become agents for change in their own communities.

Stone DeVine is an eight-year old who was diagnosed with High-Functioning Autism and ADHD. He is slowly overcoming his disability by engaging in several occupational and behavioral therapies on almost a daily basis. Stone has become obsessed with recycling and has developed a deep appreciation for the men and women who drive and operate both trash and recycling trucks.

At LIVESTRONG, we focus on three important areas: serving individuals, building communities and changing systems. Throughout the month of August we will be sharing real stories from people who have been helped in these areas by LIVESTRONG.
