Ignite My Future in School’s online lesson Speak My Language helps students demystify language learning and encourages them to use computational thinking methods to quickly learn the basics and speak their new language confidently. They do so by collecting and analyzing data, finding patterns, and identifying basic words and phrases. Ignite My Future in School is an initiative that combines the best of digital content, lesson plans, career vignettes, and professional learning to help teachers prepare their students for careers of the future.
Chevron and its partners, the Fab Foundation and BakerRipley, recently celebrated the grand opening of its tenth fabrication laboratory (Fab Lab). Located at the BakerRipley East Aldine Campus in Houston, the Chevron-supported facility has been in planning for two years and will serve as a technical resource for K-12 students, university students and the entire community. Fab Labs are for innovation, learning and invention: a place to play, to create, to learn, to mentor, and to invent.
Evan West and Kira Marsh, members of the Charlotte Engineering Early College’s (CEEC) first graduating class of fifth-year students, have a lot in common. West and Marsh were co-valedictorians of their class. They have perfect 4.0 grade point averages in their UNC Charlotte courses. Ryan’s invention, titled Early Wildfire Detection Network enables firefighters to activate an app on their cellphone using a low-cost wireless field module.

During this unique no-cost event, participants will explore their impact on the environment and learn about the importance of environmental stewardship through a set of flexible digital resources that can either be integrated by educators into classroom instruction or completed independently by students over the summer as part of an enrichment activity.
