I fell in love with the CleanMed conference when I first attended in 2010. CleanMed is a content-rich gathering, chock full of heart. It was started by two determined nonprofits, Healthcare without Harm andPractice Greenhealth, in 2001.

Preparing meals at home can be challenging for the millions living in cities. Everything from long work days to cheap and convenient fast food options makes choosing to cook fresh and balanced meals difficult. But these dietary choices are also contributing to the rise of type 2 diabetes in cities around the world.

Today is World Malaria Day. Malaria is preventable and curable, yet it is still one of the most deadly diseases in developing countries. Despite extraordinary progress in the fight against malaria over the last 15 years, the disease still claims the life of a child every two minutes. Since 2001, working with a range of organizations, the Novartis Malaria Initiative – one of the pharmaceutical industry’s largest access-to-medicine programs – has provided more than 750 million treatments for adults and children, without profit, to more than 60 countries, contributing to a dramatic reduction of malaria deaths in Africa.

On April 4-8 2016, the Novartis Institute for Tropical Diseases (NITD) held a Symposium on Parasitology in Lusaka, Zambia, bringing together international and local experts in the field with the aim of engaging in productive scientific exchange on parasitic diseases - including malaria, sleeping sickness (Human African Trypanosomiasis), Chagas, leishmaniasis, and cryptosporidiosis. Experts engaged in discussions over target product profiles for these diseases and shared the latest accomplishments in drug discovery and cutting edge basic research that will potentially enable the delivery of novel drug candidates with the adequate pharmacological profiles.

On March 7 & 8, 2016, AATA Executive Director Cynthia Woodruff, and President Dr. Donna Betts, ATR-BC, represented the American Art Therapy Association (AATA) at the Arts Advocacy Day National Arts Action Summit. This annual event provides attendees with advocacy training and an opportunity to attend coordinated visits with Members of Congress. Hosted by Americans for the Arts in partnership with over 85 national arts-related organizations, Arts Advocacy Day is the largest gathering of its kind, bringing together a broad variety of the nation’s civic and cultural groups. Grassroots advocates from across the country came to Washington to garner support for issues related to funding for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), arts education policy, and more.
