Caterpillar Invests $11.5 Million in United Way

Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT) employees and retirees together with the Caterpillar Foundation have pledged more than $11.5 million to United Way agencies across the United States as part of its 2016-2017 campaign. This amount includes a dollar-for-dollar matching grant from the Caterpillar Foundation. The United Way has been Caterpillar’s only annual solicitation for funds to its employees and retirees for more than 60 years.

Climate Change Goes Primetime for National Geographic's First-Ever Earth Week

For six consecutive nights this fall, National Geographic devoted its primetime television slate to programming that addressed the topic of climate change. Between Sunday, October 30, and Friday, November 4, 2016, viewers followed Leonardo DiCaprio across five continents to explore the effects of climate change on our communities in Before the Flood; they journeyed to India with David Letterman to understand the country’s energy challenges in the season premiere of Years of Living Dangerously; and they joined dozens of National Geographic Explorers for in-depth looks at ecosystems damaged by climate change in several thrilling nature documentaries.

US Commerce Secretary Plyzik, US Trade Representative Frohman and more than 500 guests attended. Bloomberg founder, philanthropist, three times as mayor of New York Michael Bloomberg was invited to attend and address. Co-founder and Chairman and Chairman of the Blackstone Group, Mr. Su Shimin, the former US Secretary of Commerce, former Ambassador to China Locke, and Ambassador Baucus of the US Embassy in China have also delivered speeches.

One of the founding partners of the #GivingTuesday movement announced record levels of corporate support for the global philanthropy movement. According to CECP: The CEO Force for Good, the number in its overall coalition of the world’s largest companies participating in #GivingTuesday 2016 was 82, the highest participation level seen yet. Begun in 2012, #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration.
