Xylem announced plans to expand its support to $1 million in contributions and volunteer time to the recovery and rebuild efforts underway in response to some of the most devastating weather events on record: Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, and the severe flooding in India, Nepal and Bangladesh. The Company’s actions include monetary contributions from the Company and its corporate citizenship initiative Xylem Watermark, employee plus matching gift donations and an expansion of its ongoing employee volunteer initiatives in the affected areas.
Albertsons Companies has a long history of helping cities recover from disasters, such as the recent hurricanes that hit Texas and Florida. In recognition of this commitment, Albertsons Companies was nominated as a finalist for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation's Corporate Citizenship Awards for its disaster relief and outreach efforts during Louisiana's devastating floods last year. The Corporate Citizenship winners will be announced in November 2017.
These cash donations, combined with in-kind support and funds raised through local NBCUniversal telethons for both hurricanes Irma and Harvey, raise Comcast NBCUniversal’s total contributions to almost $20 million.
Comcast also has launched an On Demand feature on Xfinity TV that makes it easy for the company’s more than 22 million video customers to support hurricane relief by either saying "Hurricane Relief" into their Xfinity X1 voice remote or clicking on the "Donate Now" screen and choosing to donate in the amount of either $1, $5 or $10.
Rock band Daughtry is making a major contribution to Habitat Hammers Back, the initiative effort helping to repair and rebuild in the aftermath of hurricanes Harvey and Irma. The band is donating $50,000 and is encouraging their fans to contribute as well.
Charter Communications today announced a $350,000 contribution to Rebuilding Together to support relief efforts and specifically assist with home repairs and renovations needed in areas impacted by Hurricane Irma.
Mohawk Industries and Nature’s Big Springs Water teamed up to donate and deliver more than 100,000 bottles of water to the Houston area. They split the cost of the water and will leverage Mohawk’s fleet to make the delivery once the roads are passable.
Carnival Corporation & plc (NYSE/LSE: CCL; NYSE: CUK), the Miami HEAT Charitable Fund, and the Micky and Madeleine Arison Family Foundation are pledging up to $10 million in funding and in-kind support for relief and rebuilding efforts in Florida and throughout the Caribbean following Hurricane Irma.
The Micky and Madeleine Arison Family Foundation will make an immediate donation of $2.5 million to Direct Relief, UNICEF and the United Way of Miami-Dade County to support the most timely and urgent relief needs in the wake of Hurricane Irma.
We continue to be concerned about the severe weather developing during this year’s Atlantic hurricane season. As Hurricane Irma approaches Florida, and other strong systems develop in the Atlantic, the Qualcomm Foundation is donating $1 million to the Center for Disaster Philanthropy for long-term recovery efforts. This funding is in addition to the $1 million Qualcomm Incorporated recently pledged towards Hurricane Harvey relief and recovery.
