This is a true story about 1,500 African food companies in nine African countries, and 1,500 volunteers from six food companies that worked together to improve food security across Africa.
The world is inhabited by eight billion people. In the next 30 years, there will be two billion more people who will need to be fed. Today, already 30% of all land globally is considered degraded with 28% of crop land in water-stressed regions, malnutrition is endemic, and climate change is accelerating. There is a growing and urgent need for fertile farmland.
During the holiday season, when most families gather to share festive meals and to exchange gifts, some families face the unthinkable.
Take Harlan for example. Harlan was an active and happy toddler when his world changed forever. At just two-years-old, Harlan was diagnosed with a rare brain cancer for which there was no cure.
Nearly a billion people live without access to clean drinking water and as a company founded on cleaning expertise, we’ve stepped up to do something about it. In 2004, we introduced the Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program and since then, with the help of our more than 150 partners around the world, we’ve delivered more than 14 billion liters of water to those who need it most. With just a bucket, cloth, spoon and our Purifier of Water packet, we can help transform lives.

While community service is a core part of Timberland’s DNA, and employees around the globe volunteer at many events each year, we don’t always have the chance to return to the partners we serve and see the lasting impact of our work. I recently was able to revisit the Philadelphia Rail Park, which was the focus of Timberland’s 2017 urban greening effort and the site of a large-scale volunteer event to bring the park to life.
For the eighth year, Jack Daniel’s and the Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA) have kicked off their “Operation Ride Home” campaign that provides financial assistance to active duty junior-enlisted military and their families to travel from their place of military service to back home for the holidays.
For over 90 years, Brown-Forman has called the same neighborhood its home. Last month we announced a $2 million gift to the YMCA being built in our backyard. Learn more about how this gift will impact our local community.
