The latest rainstorms to soak Southern California wreaked havoc on some parts of the state, but for Catalina Island residents and businesses, they brought welcome relief from a historic drought and seven years of mandatory water conservation measures.

This year, NAEM redesigned its EHS Operational Excellence conference to emphasize how companies are integrating EHS into business operations. Lissa Aquino, Corporate Compliance Assurance Manager with Stepan Co., has been contributing to the confernece planning committee. She shared insights about the changing role of EHS within companies and what to expect at the conference.

Hydrofinity washing system is the first commercial washing machine in the world to be awarded Environmentally Preferable Product Certification. Global body @SCSGlobalServices rigorously assessed their machine alongside a conventional commercial washing machine and found it has a better environmental performance.

Keep America Beautiful, the nation’s largest community improvement nonprofit organization, today announced the opening of the grant application period for the 2019 Cigarette Litter Prevention Program (CLPP), designed to help communities combat the most commonly littered item in America.

This past summer, the Water Well Trust partnered with Xylem Watermark to launch its largest project to date outside of Ashville in Holly Ridge, NC. The small town of 24 households relied on 3 deteriorating wells as its water source and did not have access to clean water. Xylem Watermark worked with local distributors, and together they assessed the site and installed 3 new well houses, which provided all 24 households access to clean, safe water. The project involved rehabilitating the wells, which cost $45,336—$3 million less than it would have cost for the households to connect to the local municipal system. Xylem Watermark is thrilled to have taken part in this project.

Ecolab Inc. continued its long-standing commitment to supporting communities in 2018 through several initiatives, including corporate giving, grants to nonprofit organizations, in-kind product donations and employee volunteerism, with a total impact of nearly $17 million.

The Consumers Energy Foundation is strengthening its commitment to Michigan’s environment by announcing new plans to provide $500,000 to nonprofits for projects aiming to preserve, restore and protect Michigan’s natural resources.

The first Planet Awards will provide as much as $250,000 to two or more Michigan nonprofits aiming to make a positive impact on the state’s land, water, or air.
