Miguel Garza is the Chief Financial Officer and Director of New Business Development for Clínicas del Azúcar. Based in Monterrey, Mexico, the organization’s mission is to provide high-quality low-cost care to prevent and treat diabetes. Clínicas del Azúcar’s leaders use their background in business to apply entrepreneurial skills to improve the health of people who would otherwise not have access to specialized care.

“The work that we’re doing in Clínicas del Azúcar is basically trying to create a convenient, one-stop shop model, retail model, for people who have diabetes,” Miguel explains in this video. “We want to revolutionize how we treat diabetes.”

The Pfizer Foundation recently awarded Global Health Innovation Grants to 15 organizations, including Clinicas del Azúcar, that are employing innovative and sustainable approaches to improving healthcare for underserved individuals around the world. Clínicas del Azúcar is using its Global Health Innovation Grant to expand low-cost services to more than 3,000 people with diabetes in rural areas of Mexico.
