GSK partners with local nonprofit to improve medication adherence

Data analysts from a major pharmaceutical manufacturer partnered with a group that manages Medicaid recipients to provide pharmacists with tools to keep patients on the proper medication regiments

GlaxoSmithKline and Community Care of North Carolina formed a partnership in which they will mine very specific subset of patient data – what they are calling “small data” as opposed to the now ubiquitous big data – in an effort to get information on which they can actually make a quick decision about better patient care.

There are some potential huge savings here. It is estimated that one-third to one-half of all patients do not take their medications properly, costing the U.S. health system an estimated $290 billion in preventable spending each year
