DataKind Showcases "Voices of Pro Bono Data Science" for Pro Bono Week 2014

NEW YORK, October 14, 2014 /3BL Media/ - DataKind will join Taproot Foundation for the second year in a row to celebrate Pro Bono Week 2014, October 19-25, by showcasing data science as one of the newest fields to embrace pro bono service.

DataKind represents a global network of over 1,700 data science volunteers that has collectively donated 15,000 hours of pro bono service to nearly 50 mission-driven organizations since 2011. To celebrate their contributions and the growing pro bono movement among data scientists, DataKind will participate in local Pro Bono Week celebrations in San Francisco and Washington DC as well as share results from its Teradata PARTNERS DataDive in Nashville to be held October 17-18.

Teradata PARTNERS DataDive - October 19, Nashville

In partnership with corporate sponsor, Teradata, DataKind will host a DataDive to kick off Pro Bono Week, a two-day event that pairs four nonprofit organizations, icouldbe, GlobalGiving, Cultural Data Project and HURIDOCS, with teams of expert data scientists volunteering their skills and time to tackle the organizations’ data challenges.  Results from the event will be shared throughout Pro Bono Week - follow @DataKind on Twitter for updates.

Chapter Launch Events - October 22, San Francisco & DC

In August 2014, DataKind launched five new Chapters. Two of the new Chapters, DataKind San Francisco-Bay Area and DataKind DC, will be hosting launch events on October 22 in the South Bay and Washington DC respectively, bringing together data scientists who want to volunteer their professional skill set to help mission-driven organizations.   

Pro Bono Data Science Consulting - October 23, San Francisco & DC

DataKind Chapter Leaders in the Bay Area and Washington DC will participate in local Pro Bono Resource Fairs hosted by Taproot Foundation to provide basic data science consulting to nonprofit organizations in San Francisco and Washington DC.

Voices of Pro Bono Data Science - October 19-25, Virtual

Throughout the week, DataKind will feature quotes and stories from past volunteers and organizations as well as volunteer pledges to do pro bono.  Follow @DataKind on Twitter to get the latest updates.
