KALAMAZOO, MICH, Oct. 9, 2015 /3BL Media/ – Thanks to a unique partnership with Kalamazoo Valley Habitat for Humanity and CBS EcoMedia’s EcoAd program, Consumers Energy, Michigan’s largest utility company, is contributing to critical energy efficiency and weatherization home-improvement projects as part of a broader neighborhood revitalization program in Kalamazoo County.

Building on its longstanding commitment to neighborhood revitalization, Consumers Energy is working with Habitat for Humanity Michigan and Kalamazoo Valley Habitat for Humanity to support important weatherization home improvement projects. Kalamazoo Valley Habitat serves residents of Kalamazoo County and the cities of Plainwell and Otsego and Gun Plain and Otsego townships in Allegan County. Part of Habitat’s neighborhood revitalization program, the weatherization projects aim to improve the quality of housing for first-time homeowners and help reduce energy costs for low-income homeowner families.

To celebrate Consumers Energy’s support, a community event was held at a Habitat home in Kalamazoo City, where a dozen Consumers Energy employees volunteered last month. Hosts of the event included John Broschak, Vice President of Consumers Energy, and Don Jones, Executive Director of Kalamazoo Valley Habitat for Humanity. Consumers Energy presented a check to Kalamazoo Valley Habitat for Humanity, and toured the Habitat home site.

“World Habitat Day was celebrated Monday, and it’s fitting that we highlight our commitment to supporting Habitat’s mission and to building strong Michigan communities,” said Broschak, Consumers Energy’s Vice President of Major Projects. “Our promise to care for the Michigan communities we serve includes building on our already-strong relationship with Habitat for Humanity.”

“Weatherization and energy efficiency home improvements help create healthy and sustainable homes and communities,” said Paul Polizzotto, President and Founder of CBS EcoMedia. “Consumers Energy’s support of these projects will ensure that families and first-time homeowners in Kalamazoo are living in safe, high-quality and affordable housing that contributes to a more sustainable environment.”
