A record 3,937 General Mills employees participated in our 10th annual Global Volunteer Week, including employees from 46 locations (including 17 countries). In total, our employees dedicated more than 6,637 volunteer hours, which included positively impacting the environment, supporting hunger relief efforts, and helping our furry friends at animal rescue organizations.

Big Ben. Fish and chips. “The Tube.” The United Kingdom is known for all of these (jolly good) things, and much more. But one thing few people know about is the level of hunger that exists across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. In fact, in the UK, one in eight people go hungry every day. Yet 163,000 pounds of perfectly good food is wasted every day in Britain. At General Mills, we believe that all food should be eaten, and that taking a lead role in surplus food recovery is a business, moral and sustainability imperative.

In the world’s poorest communities, women and girls typically bear the brunt of poverty. When families struggle to grow enough food to eat or earn enough money to send all their kids to school, it’s the girls who are often the last to eat and first to be kept home from school.
