RACINE, Wis., May 16, 2012 / 3BL Media / PRNewswire/ -- Caring about people and helping to improve the quality of their lives is a deeply embedded value of CITGO Petroleum Corporation and its Fueling Good program. Now in its fourth year of rewarding local heroes, the Fueling Good program has assisted more than 200 non-profit organizations in carrying out their vital missions, from caring for the eyes and ears of the underinsured to providing support for families affected by mental illness to protecting valuable water resources.

CITGO and local Marketer Lakeside Oil recognized Kids Corps, Inc. as a 2012 Winter Fueling Good winner. Providing instruments, instruction, uniforms and transportation to young men ages eight through 16, Kids Corps members march in local parades and perform at various events in the Racine area. The organization also sponsors Racine's Boy Scout Troop 203. With the Fueling Good prize, the corps can travel thousands of miles this year as the members participate in various activities.

"The Fueling Good award will help us with the largest expense for our organization, fuel. Our organization runs entirely on donations, so budgets can get tight," said Bruce Chaffee, founder of Kids Corps, Inc. "We are all incredibly grateful to CITGO and Lakeside Oil for their generosity. Knowing that our gas costs are covered, we will finally be able to purchase and upgrade our equipment, which will also allow us to open up this program to more young men in the community."

Kids Corps strives to instill a sense of purpose and pride in the young men who participate in the program. The drum and bugle corps is an outlet for its members to acquire a new skill and adhere to the ideals of camaraderie and brotherhood that the Boy Scouts program promotes. The charity operates strictly on volunteered time and donated funds from local supporters.

During the most recent campaign, nearly 1,700 charities entered and nearly 151,000 votes were cast to help determine the current round of Fueling Good winners.
