Brown-Forman Announces $1 Million Contribution to Speed Art Museum

Brown-Forman Corporation announced today that it is giving the Speed Art Museum $1 million dollars as part of the Speed’s multi-million dollar capital campaign. The announcement was made today by Brown-Forman Vice Chairman James S. Welch, Jr. during a news conference at the Speed Art Museum.

CITGO, Nature Conservancy, Grand Isle State Park & Grand Isle School Help Restore Critical Barrier Island in Southeast Louisiana

In 2005, Hurricane Katrina seriously damaged the dune ridges of Grand Isle, a barrier island located in Jefferson Parish, and 10 years later, the damage caused by Katrina continues to jeopardize the beach. Recently, volunteers from the Nature Conservancy, Grand Isle State Park and Grand Isle School planted beach vegetation in order to stabilize the dune ridges of the Grand Isle shoreline, create habitats for migratory birds and make Grand Isle and its residents more resistant to storm surge.

When their teacher asked them to take a hard look at issues affecting people in their community, one group of students in Missouri noticed that some of their peers with disabilities had trouble staying upright in their wheelchairs. And so, the students got to work with compressed cardboard, cutting and shaping various components to find which ones would create classroom furniture that would make their friends most comfortable
