General Motors Partners With DTE on Wind Energy in Michigan

As part of its commitment to increasing its renewable energy footprint globally and finding clean energy solutions near its operations, General Motors has partnered with DTE Energy for 300,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of wind energy in the state of Michigan. Once complete, the energy sourced will be enough to power 100 percent of the electricity needs of GM’s global technical center in Warren and its Detroit-based operations at the Renaissance Center. The 300,000 MWh are equivalent to the amount of power consumed by nearly 30,000 U.S. households per year.

For more than 100 years, Jack London’s adventure novel Call of the Wild has been celebrated as a powerful testament to the beauty of nature. When Twentieth Century Fox set out to adapt the book as a film in 2018, the studio sought to honor this legacy by producing the film in the most environmentally responsible way possible. From the earliest days of production, the cast and crew dedicated themselves to reducing waste, recycling used materials, prioritizing responsible food service, and embracing renewable energy. These efforts helped the project divert more than 82% of its waste from landfill and generate significant cost and carbon savings in the process.

We also are utilizing closed landfills to generate solar electricity. Through these efforts, we’re converting previously unused resources into power for homes, businesses and vehicles – including our own collection trucks.

Comcast recently announced the completion of a 1,170-panel carport solar installation that will help power its regional call center in Plymouth, Mass. The system will generate enough onsite clean energy — as much as 600,000 kilowatt hours of power annually — to offset more than 95% of the facility’s annual energy consumption.
