The International WELL Building Institute celebrated the most recent stop of its WELL Journey in Bangkok, Thailand, with much fanfare by bringing together a diverse group of local stakeholders committed to promoting healthy buildings and healthy communities in the country.

In early 2018, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced that independent analyses conducted by NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) show that 2017 was the second warmest year on record globally.
That warming trend has continued, as the latest research by NOAA predicts that 2018 is on pace to be the fourth hottest year on record – with only 2015, 2016, and 2017 being warmer.

The nation’s largest cities are getting even greener, according to the fifth annual U.S. Green Building Adoption Index by CBRE and Maastricht University. Researchers have found green certified office space across America’s 30 largest metros has reached 41 percent of market totals – the highest in the index’s history.

The window screen is engineered to do more than block out mosquitoes, spiders and pesky flies. It’s a critical part of the ventilation system of a house, particularly in the summer. And when a house – and its windows – are constructed well, those open, protected apertures can often reduce the dependency on high-emissions, expensive air conditioning systems.

At 99 Ranch Market in Hacienda Heights, the brightly lit refrigerators display a line of unique Asian food items like durian and dumplings under new LED lights. Shoppers no longer have to be bundled in warm clothing when browsing through the refrigerated aisles, said Christopher Connaughton, 99 Ranch Market’s procurement manager. Many of their open-front refrigerated display cases were replaced with energy-efficient enclosed cases this year.

Chad Helmle, Tetra Tech’s national lead for green infrastructure, has more than 20 years of experience in the stormwater and watershed management field. Mr. Helmle oversees numerous large and small water resources projects and programs across the United States that explore a broad spectrum of stormwater-related issues, ranging from strategic planning to design and implementation. He has worked on more than 50 neighborhood-scale green infrastructure retrofit design efforts in parks and other public spaces and has helped pioneer new and innovative watershed and best management practices modeling analyses.
