It’s the first day of spring, which means it’s time to kick off the annual Keep America Beautiful® Great American Cleanup®, the nation’s largest community improvement program. Through this far-reaching effort, which takes place from March 20 through June 20, national nonprofit Keep America Beautiful and its network of more than 600 community-based affiliates and partner organizations host cleanups, green-ups and fix-ups in more than 20,000 communities across the country, engaging more than 1.5 million volunteers and participants.

Smithfield Foods Donates More Than 42,000 Pounds of Protein To Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina

Today, Smithfield Foods, Inc. and Food Lion joined forces to donate more than more than 42,000 pounds of protein to Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. Smithfield’s contribution was part of the company’s 2019 Helping Hungry Homes® donation tour. Helping Hungry Homes® is Smithfield’s signature hunger-relief initiative focused on alleviating hunger and helping Americans become more food secure. The donation, equivalent to more than 169,000 servings, will help families fight hunger in the Metrolina region.

P&G Sets New Goal to Deliver 25 Billion Liters of Clean Drinking Water to Families in Need Worldwide

This World Water Day, Procter & Gamble (P&G) is celebrating the achievement of its 2020 goal of delivering 15 billion liters of clean drinking water through its non-profit Children’s Safe Drinking Water (CSDW) Program. P&G is now accelerating its efforts to help provide clean drinking water to even more people by delivering 25 billion liters – more than 100 billion glasses of water – worldwide by 2025.

Newark, Delaware’s Kirk Middle School Claims Keep America Beautiful Recycle-Bowl Title

Kirk Middle School of Newark, Delaware, today was crowned national champion of the Keep America Beautiful® Recycle-Bowl, the national recycling competition for K-12 students, teachers and school communities. Recycle-Bowl engaged nearly 730 schools spanning four weeks in the fall, culminating on America Recycles Day on Nov. 15, 2018.

At a special gathering on board Nieuw Statendam following the special Girls’ Getaway sailing in partnership with O, The Oprah Magazine, Holland America Line bestowed its Shared Humanity Award on Oprah Winfrey — philanthropist, global media leader and founder and editorial director of the magazine. At the event, Holland America Line presented a $40,000 donation to Oprah Winfrey’s Leadership Academy for Girls to commemorate the award and honored her as official godmother of the new ship.
