Green Charge eBook: Solar + Energy Storage A Golden Opportunity in the Golden State

In 2017, the energy storage market is expected to double in size in California thanks to more than $448 million in federal and local incentives to pair storage with solar projects. Together, both solar and energy storage work to lower electric bills: solar by overall consumption and storage by spikes in power demand. Variable power generation is a weakness of solar systems that energy storage improves on. Pairing solar and energy storage brings stability, increased reliability and resiliency to the electrical grid.

Black & Veatch-Designed Microgrid to Power Innovation at Shell Technology Center in Houston

Black & Veatch, a leader in the design and deployment of clean energy-producing microgrids, has been selected by Shell International Exploration & Production Company, Inc. to perform engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) on a new microgrid system at Shell’s Technology Center in Houston.

Duke Energy’s $1 Million Grant Adds 200 EV Charging Stations Across North Carolina

Between Main Street’s flowering trees and the patchwork facades of historic buildings, the Shute Family Parking Garden provides about 60 parking spaces for downtown Monroe, N.C. Soon, the parking garden will become even more green when the city installs its first electric vehicle charging station.

Massachusetts vs. New York and the Energy Storage Race

How the competition will play out is still unclear. What is evident is that the state perceived as the winner in this race will likely become a regional hub for energy storage, attracting investment and jobs, while leaving the other state in its shadow. This puts policy makers in the hot seat.

SCE Provides $450 Rebate for New and Used Electric Vehicles

Starting today, Southern California Edison is offering a $450 reward to customers who drive all-electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles.
The incentive, which is being offered through SCE’s Clean Fuel Rewards Program, applies to new, used and leased vehicles. Unlike most rebate programs, second and third owners of a vehicle are also eligible for the payment.

Battery-Powered Trucks a Big Lift for SCE Workers, Environment

Southern California Edison is investing in a new generation of environmentally friendly service trucks whose overhead lifts are powered by the same kind of batteries used in plug-in electric cars.

SEPA and Black & Veatch Release New Case Study on Distributed Energy Resources Planning

Consumers could outspend utilities in the adoption of solar, storage, electric vehicles and other distributed energy resources (DERs), making it essential for utilities to track and integrate these DERs into their planning processes to benefit their customers and the grid. That is one of the key findings of a new case study from Black & Veatch and SEPA, which details the efforts of the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) to create such an integrated DER planning process.

San Diego Water Authority Awarded $1 Million Incentive to Deploy Clean Energy Storage Project

The San Diego County Water Authority has received a $1 million incentive from the California Public Utilities Commission to build and deploy intelligent energy storage that will save ratepayers money and stretch the energy output potential of solar panels already installed at the Water Authority’s Twin Oaks Valley Water Treatment Plant.

Infrastructure Week 2017: Keys to Digital Grid Strategy

Infrastructure Week allows us to reflect on the modernization needed to drive the new digital grid. A comprehensive view of the infrastructure elements needed to create a more efficient and sustainable energy landscape should include communications networks and embedded computing. Utilities, technology vendors and community leaders will need to work in collaboration to ensure all elements are considered for the digital grid to thrive.
