Baxter International Inc. was recognized for the third consecutive year as one of the most community-minded companies in the nation, as a part of the Civic 50. Civic 50 is an initiative of Points of Light - the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service, mobilizes millions of people to take action and change the world. Points of Light sets the standard for corporate civic engagement and creates a roadmap for companies seeking to best use their time, talent, and resources to improve the quality of life in the communities where they do business.
This April, Fashion Revolution, a non-profit organization, released their annual Fashion Transparency Index report. The Index ranks 40 of the most recognizable fashion brands based on their supply chain transparency and governance practices. The average score was 42%, with only three brands receiving a “top rating” of up to 77%. Companies with higher scores made their supply chain policies available to the public, and had auditing and reporting policies in place. A majority of companies receiving low scores merely had a code of conduct available on their websites.

The Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation has awarded a $5 million grant to Maine Medical Center (MMC) for the creation of a statewide initiative to improve the prevention, early detection and treatment of lung cancer in Maine, where incidence rates and deaths due to lung cancer are among the highest in the nation, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Salmon farming companies in British Columbia are continuing to achieve the high sustainability commitments they have set. Cermaq Canada has announced that its Mussel Rock farm, located in Clayoquot Sound on the West Coast of Vancouver Island, has been certified to the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) salmon standard. This is the company’s third farm to reach the standard.
