American Households Not Prepared For Disasters, Not Confident That Children’s Needs Will Be Met

The United States is experiencing a number of extreme weather events. Ten years after Hurricane Katrina and three years after Superstorm Sandy, the vast majority of Americans remain unprepared for major disasters, according to results from a National Center for Disaster Preparedness (NCDP) research study. Many communities, systems and child-serving institutions are not sufficiently prepared to meet the needs of children when a crisis strikes. And many parents are not confident that their children will be protected and are not aware of what plans schools have made to be sure that children are safe in case of a catastrophic event in their community.

of this valuable resource, while saving landfill space.
For others, the social, environmental and economic
requirements of third-party forest certification like the
Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) assure responsible forest management practices were followed. To these consumers, independent certificate on is the best way to ensure the world’s forests remain for generations to come.

The Big Picture of Oil and Our Troubles by Leif Wenar

Introduction to Leif Wenar's speech (January 27th) based on his book, Blood Oil: Tyrants, Violence, and the Rules That Run the World. He sees a great opportunity for America, now, to stop buying stolen oil and other natural resources. We can lead the world by putting an end to the bad, old rule 'might makes right' in terms of oil and natural resources. All quite doable and with so many of the countries in the "Arc of Oil" in chaos and increasingly controlled by terrorists now is the time to act on principle, practice what we preach, and stop buying stolen oil. He makes a strong, inspirational argument for changing old, dysfunctional rules and living by our principles when it comes to oil and other natural resources.
