Liuzhou, Guangxi, China, May 15, 2013 /3BL Media/ – The World Environment Center (WEC), the China Eco-Efficiency Research Center (CERC), and SGM Wuling (SGMW) have launched the 2013 phase of an innovative environmental stewardship project to provide cleaner production and energy efficiency technology and practices to SGMW suppliers.  The project is the extension of an initial project conducted with a select set of suppliers in 2011 and 2012, and has now increased to include 22 participating suppliers, two of SGMW’s own plants, and five of the original pilot project suppliers.

This phase represents SGMW’s extension of its strategy to improve supplier performance and support China’s national commitments to improve energy efficiency and sustainable development. Through the WEC/CERC team, for the next year, participating suppliers will receive direct training to reduce waste, carbon dioxide emissions, material and energy consumption, thereby maximizing efficiencies and cost savings.  As the project progresses, the team will continue to provide technical assistance, monitor the supplier activity, and gather data on the results to share at the end of the project.

WEC implements innovative sustainability programs in partnership with corporations and governments in Central and Latin America, Asia, Africa and Europe and has been achieving successful results with green supply chain efforts in China with General Motors, SAIC-GM, and their subsidiaries since 2005.

“The main focus of the project is to help suppliers to identify practices and technologies that are more efficient, use fewer resources, and save cost. We believe that through such program with WEC and CERC, we can create more value for our customers and communities.” Mr. Shi Guoyong, Vice President of SGMW said.

“Our continued partnership with SGM Wuling to provide further environmental and economic benefits through their supply chain is a noteworthy testament to both the strength of WEC and CERC’s activities in Cleaner Production and to the commitment of SGMW and its suppliers to achieving significant, lasting environmental results,” stated Dr. Terry F. Yosie, President and CEO of the World Environment Center. “SGM Wuling is a marketplace leader in manufacturing small and mid-size vehicles and plays a crucial role in promoting environmental progress and economic successes among local manufacturers.”
