(3BLMedia/theCSRfeed) February 10, 2011 - Western Union has joined forces with CECP and the United Nations to pioneer new approaches to rallying the public and other companies around the needs of the world's most vulnerable people. On February 28, 2011, Western Union President and CEO Hikmet Ersek will issue a global corporate philanthropy challenge.

In celebration of International Corporate Philanthropy Day, Ersek will make a special announcement about Western Union’s partnership with the United Nations to advance the Millennium Development Goals, particularly those aimed at reducing poverty and providing universal education. Ersek will attend CECP’s Board of Boards meeting, marking Western Union’s fourth consecutive CEO appearance. He also will speak at a joint CECP/UN event, and host a special reception at the UN’s New York headquarters.

Western Union’s commitment to the UN grows out of its experience as one of the world’s most global companies and one that specializes in opening new possibilities for the underserved – from small business owners who compete abroad to everyday consumers with financial needs that are not well covered by traditional financial services.
