March 25, 2014 /3BL Media/ - The ability of a community to manage its water supply system is vital to long-term sustainability. Tenke Fungurume Mining, a Freeport-McMoRan company, helps to provide access to clean drinking water to the communities near its operation.

Tenke Fungurume Mining’s commitment to providing clean drinking water began before it started mining operations in March of 2009. Since then, Tenke Fungurume Mining has drilled 111 clean water hand-pump wells and currently is drilling 16 more. Each well is monitored by local water management committees, which collect usage fees and manage the water wells.

In addition, TFM has installed 168 faucets at water distribution points throughout the city of Fungurume, which supply about 2.3 million liters of water per day, and 84 faucets throughout the town of Tenke, which supply about 2.1 million liters per day.
