(3BL Media) June 8, 2012 - ExxonMobil (NYSE: XOM) has published its 2011 Corporate Citizenship Report, detailing its environmental, economic, and social performance. The report is available at www.exxonmobil.com/citizenship.

Rex Tillerson, Chairman and CEO, said, “The need for energy – vital for economic development and human progress – must be met while addressing environmental and social impacts associated with increasing demand for energy resources.“  The Corporate Citizenship Report explains how ExxonMobil is playing its role in meeting this challenge.

The report documents ExxonMobil’s plans, initiatives and performance related to safety, the environment, economic development, corporate governance, and social progress. The report, which is the company’s ninth, shows that in 2011, ExxonMobil:

  • Remained on track to achieve the 2012 energy efficiency goal for refining and chemical operations
  • Started implementing its Operations Integrity Management System at XTO Energy Inc., its newly-acquired subsidiary
  • Invested more than $440 million to improve energy efficiency, reduce flaring, and reduce GHG emissions
  • Increased spending with U.S. minority and women-owned business enterprises to $869 million in direct spending and $181 million leveraged through contracts.

The report also describes the company’s approach to stakeholder engagement and community investment, including:

  • Hosting two site visits and multiple meetings with the report’s External Citizenship Advisory Panel
  • Systematically engaging with indigenous people near operations in Alaska, Canada, Papua New Guinea and Russia
  • Continuing to support local and global community initiatives, including a grant with the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women

The Corporate Citizenship Report was prepared in accordance with the reporting guidelines and indicators of the International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association and the American Petroleum Institute Oil and Gas Industry Guidance on Sustainability Reporting (December 2010).
