(3BL Media) May 4, 2012 - CEMEX (NYSE:CX) has released its 2011 Sustainable Development Report, which met a GRI-checked level of A+ for the fourth consecutive year. To download the full report please visit: here

In this latest report CEMEX shows significant progress in major priority areas such as carbon strategy, sustainable construction, our contribution to provide affordable housing and infrastructure to strengthen the communities where we operate, environmental and biodiversity management and workplace safety. Some highlights include:

• Increased the alternative fuels substitution rate in our cement plants to 24.7% of the total fuel mix, from 20.3% in 2010.
• Expanded the coverage of the CEMEX CO2 Footprint Tool to 88% of our total cement, ready mix, and aggregates facilities.
• The Affordable Housing Program assisted in building more than 3,200 homes for families in the bottom of the pyramid segment.
• Completed 188 infrastructure projects, representing more than 8 million square meters of concrete pavement for highways, mass transit projects, airport runways, and city streets.
• Incorporated 45,545 additional Latin American families into our “Patrimonio Hoy” program and established 16 new “Productive Centers of Self-employment”, benefiting an accumulated total of 400,000 families.
• Increased the percentage of clinker produced with continuous monitoring of major emissions (dust, NOx and SOx) from 74 to 80%.
• The lost-time injury rate for employees (per million hours worked) decreased to 2.3, a 12% reduction vs. 2010.

The report includes an external limited assurance statement by PricewaterhouseCoopers for the sixth consecutive year, and a statement by the company’s Sustainable Development Reporting Advisory Panel.
