National Geographic has joined forces with the Breakthrough Junior Challenge, an annual global competition for students, designed to inspire creative thinking about science.

Students between ages 13 and 18 from countries across the globe are invited to create and submit an original video, no more than 3 minutes in length, that brings to life a concept or theory in the life sciences, fundamental physics or mathematics. The submissions are judged on the student’s ability to communicate complex scientific ideas in the most engaging, illuminating, and imaginative ways.

One student winner receives a $250,000 college scholarship, their school gets a new $100,000 state-of-the-art science lab, and their teacher wins $50,000 teacher prize.

The winner will also be invited to participate in the televised Breakthrough Prize ceremony, where they’ll meet world leaders in science, technology, academia, business, and entertainment. Their name will be announced during the live show on the National Geographic Channel in November 2018 (date to be announced), followed by a worldwide broadcast on Fox Networks and National Geographic Channels in over 170 countries.
