August 12, 2021 /3BL Media/ - New World Energy has been selected as the winner of the 2021 Net Impact Future of Energy Challenge: Net-Zero Emissions. The Future of Energy Challenge is a competition that invites the next generation of innovators and social entrepreneurs interested in launching their own sustainable energy enterprises to develop alternative energy solutions that build the path to a more sustainable future. Hosted by Net Impact in partnership with Shell, the program challenged Net Impact chapter members to design alternative energy solutions that have the potential to grow into scalable businesses. This year’s challenge asked Net Impact’s global community to address how to directly reduce Scope 3 Greenhouse Gas Emissions. New World Energy was chosen as this year’s winning team for their innovative and actionable solution to turn waste into cleaner energy by piloting a revolutionary method of hydrogen production that uses zero fossil fuels and can help power the economy of the future.

Following a rigorous application process, six finalist teams were selected to participate in an eight-week accelerator run in partnership with Eidos Global’s Social Innovation Warehouse. Through the accelerator, teams were provided guidance and mentorship from Shell to develop their sustainable start-ups. At the culmination of the accelerator, finalists pitched their solutions to a panel of esteemed judges and industry experts.

This year’s winning team, New World Energy, is comprised of Tatyana Whited and Vladien Shvedov. Their solution was inspired by their understanding of the current inefficiencies in producing hydrogen fuel. Traditionally, hydrogen is produced through fossil fuel refinement. Producing a cleaner form of hydrogen is traditionally more costly and therefore limited in scalability. However, New World Energy’s winning proposal challenges the traditional hydrogen production process to create 100% green hydrogen on-site and on-demand for 99% cheaper than today's methods. This cleaner, cheaper form of hydrogen production has the potential to scale to power households, businesses, and transportation.

“Being the Future of Energy Challenge winner means the world to us. We are humbled and honored,” said Whited. “It means that people across the globe notice and share our passion for a clean environment and green energy. It means that we are ready to build a world of green energy with people who share our vision. Winning this challenge affirms that we have developed a future technology that makes a difference in solving the environmental crisis we are facing today.”

As winners of the Future of Energy Challenge, the New World Energy team will receive $10,000 of non-dilutive funding to invest in the next stage of development for their clean energy start-up.

“The New World Energy’s team, along with the rest of the finalists that participated in the challenge, represent the innovative, collaborative work business must leverage in order to produce the sustainable and scalable solutions needed to provide global access to renewable, reliable energy and reduce harm to the planet,” said Bela Shah, Senior Program Manager at Net Impact and lead on the Future of Energy Challenge.
