Ingersoll Rand and Trane Leaders Join Global Sustainability Professionals at Energy & Sustainability Conference

DAVIDSON, N.C., Feb. 10, 2014 /3BL Media/ – Scott Tew, executive director of the Center for Energy Efficiency and Sustainability (CEES) at Ingersoll Rand, Howard Turner, contracting solutions manager, Trane, and Jeff Smitley, Energy Solutions Group account manager, Trane, will lead discussions at the Energy & Sustainability Conference, Feb. 11-12, at the Greater Richmond Convention Center in Richmond, Va. 

Hosted by Virginia Commonwealth University and the Virginia Chamber of Commerce, this event is the largest energy and sustainability conference in Virginia. National leaders from business and institutional market sectors will discuss how sustainability is changing their organizations and how they are adapting and leveraging sustainability as a way to enhance business results. Session title: Global Sustainability Directors

Tew will join executives from DuPont and Ford to share perspectives on how their organizations are leveraging energy and sustainability strategies to improve their business metrics. Tew will also discuss the importance of embedding sustainability into a company’s culture and share examples of how Ingersoll Rand has engaged employees to think more sustainably, resulting in measurable positive results for the company.

Session title: A Day in the Life of a Chief Facility Officer

Session Moderator: Howard Turner, contracting solutions manager, Trane

When: Feb. 11, 2014, 2:15 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Turner will moderate this higher education-focused session. Facilities managers will discuss how they are incorporating energy and sustainability into their strategies; their challenges and successes; and what they see occurring in the next few years to help with these initiatives.

Session title: Combined Heat and Power: A Clean, Reliable and Affordable Energy Solution for Virginia Business

Session Moderator: Jeff Smitley, Energy Solutions Group account manager, Trane

When: Feb. 12, 2014, 8:30 a.m. – 9:45 a.m.

Smitley will moderate this panel discussion. Industry leaders will discuss the business case and opportunities for combined heat and power deployment in the public and private sector.

Scott Tew is the founder of the Center for Energy Efficiency & Sustainability at Ingersoll Rand (CEES) and is responsible for sustainability initiatives aimed at reducing resource demand of products and minimizing resource use. He has helped develop a green product portfolio, personalized employee engagement programs, unique research on unmet needs in the green space, and sustainability-related solution concepts. Tew holds degrees in environmental science and ecology from Livingston University. He plays key roles in the Alliance to Save Energy, the EDGE Center for Energy and the Global Environment at Duke University, the North Carolina New Schools Energy & Sustainability Council, and the US and India Green Building Councils, and has contributed to the book, “Practicing Sustainability”. He’s a featured speaker and thought leader in linking public policy, economic impacts and sustainability.
