August 12, 2014 /3BL Media/ - The Atlantic Copper Foundation recently received the Andalucía Environment Award in the Business and Environment category for its work to educate the community about the second most significant wetland reserve in Andalucía, the Marismas del Odiel Natural Park.

Located adjacent to Atlantic Copper in Huelva, Spain, Marismas del Odiel is a large estuary and marshland of the Odiel and Tinto Rivers, and consists of several smaller protected areas inside the park.

The Foundation sponsors an environmental education program for school children called My Wetlands, My Schools and an Explorers’ School Day Camp at the park. It also supports the development of visitor areas where community members can see and learn first-hand about the park’s many animals and plants.

Marismas del Odiel is one of nine biosphere reserves in Andalucía and part of a UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves consisting of 631 internationally-designated protected areas in 119 countries.
