HOUSTON, Sept. 4, 2012 / 3BL Media / PRNewswire/ -- Fueling more than 1 million miles of good by assisting more than 200 charities, CITGO Petroleum Corporation is once again launching its Fueling Good program. Now in its fourth year, the Fueling Good program continues to recognize and reward local heroes making a difference in their communities while also helping 501(c)(3) organizations extend their Ripple of Good through service to more people. Starting Sept. 4, non-profit organizations can enter to win a share of $60,000 in CITGO Gift Cards by submitting their stories at www.FuelingGood.com. When the contest concludes, up to 12 non-profit organizations will receive $5,000 in CITGO Gift Cards to support their causes and show just how far a gallon of gas can go.

"Because giving back to our communities is a core principle for CITGO and its network of nearly 6,000 locally owned retail locations, we designed the Fueling Good program to recognize those people and organizations that give so much to make positive, lasting changes in their communities," said Dr. Dario Merchan, vice president of government and public affairs at CITGO. "It fact, fueling the engine of good and promoting positive change is a way of life for our corporation and employees. So, we are always very proud to honor our local Fueling Good heroes and are excited about helping even more organizations this fall."

From Sept. 4 to Oct. 16, section 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations are invited to submit an entry at www.FuelingGood.com, provided that they are based in the 27 states and the District of Columbia in which CITGO gasoline stations operate, and are focused on one of the following four CITGO pillars of good: Environmental Protection and Restoration, Education and Social Investment, Energy Assistance and Conservation, and Health and Well-being. Through Fueling Good, non-profit organizations that meet these criteria have a chance to be recognized and rewarded for their efforts to positively affect the lives of others.

From Oct. 17 to Nov. 28, the general public, including volunteers and supporters of each eligible charity that has entered, can vote online for the entry they believe is doing the most good. Based on the highest scoring submissions, 12 entries will each be awarded $5,000 in CITGO Gift Cards redeemable for fuel and convenience store purchases at any of the nearly 6,000 locally owned CITGO retail locations. Winners will be announced in December.

CITGO announced 12 Fueling Good winners in March of this year, recognizing charities from 11 different states. Almost 1,700 charities entered the Winter Fueling Good program and nearly 151,000 votes were cast to help determine these winners.
