STONY BROOK, N.Y., April 23, 2012 / 3BL Media / PRNewswire/ -- Caring about people and helping to improve the quality of their lives is a deeply embedded value of CITGO Petroleum Corporation and its Fueling Good program. Now in its fourth year of rewarding local heroes, the Fueling Good program has assisted more than 200 non-profit organizations in carrying out their vital missions, from caring for the eyes and ears of the underinsured to providing support for families affected by mental illness to protecting valuable water resources.

CITGO and Warex Terminals Corporation recently recognized the Stony Brook Cancer Center Foundation as a 2012 Winter Fueling Good winner. The Stony Brook Cancer Center will receive $5,000 in CITGO Gift Cards to power its new shuttle bus, providing more than 1,000 miles of shuttle service for cancer patients in Long Island, and assist with daily living needs of cancer patients.

"We are so grateful to CITGO and Warex Terminals for this generous donation. It will help so many patients and their families," said Linda Bily, cancer patient advocacy & community outreach coordinator with the Stony Brook Cancer Center and cancer survivor. "For the first time we are able to provide shuttle service for cancer patients to and from their neighborhoods, which means more consistent doctor visits and treatments."

Additional supporters of the Stony Brook Cancer Center and its patients include a local Suffolk County school bus company, which donated a bus, and a local car repair station, which repaired the bus and seats and added seatbelts. Furthermore, local charity Splashes of Hope offered to paint the bus with cancer ribbons. With the CITGO Gift Cards, the new shuttle bus will be fueled and ready to transport cancer patients for chemotherapy and radiation at the Stony Brook Cancer Center.

"It's wonderful to see how the Stony Brook Cancer Center Foundation's goal of utilizing a shuttle bus for its patients has quickly and efficiently come together with the support of the Long Island community," said Joanne Conley, president of Warex Terminals. "We are honored to assist with this project and help this worthy charity."

Due to the lack of public transportation on Long Island, the limited resources of senior-assistance buses and the inflated cost of cabs, many patients choose not to complete treatment because they can't get to their appointments or are too fatigued from the journey. The Stony Brook Cancer Center Foundation's shuttle service will help patients tremendously and may increase the number of patients through outreach. As a dedicated steward of community health, the Stony Brook Cancer Center Foundation is committed to helping individuals gain access to healthcare services and live healthier lives through education and cancer screenings.

The principles of Fueling Good can be seen in all aspects of the CITGO brand. In fact, since the launch of the program in 2009, CITGO has fueled more than a million miles of good through its support of local heroes like the Stony Brook Cancer Center Foundation. During the most recent campaign, nearly 1,700 charities entered and nearly 151,000 votes were cast to help determine the current round of Fueling Good winners.

Registration for the next Fueling Good program will open for all 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations within the CITGO marketing area on Sept. 4, 2012.  To enter for a chance to win up to $5,000 in CITGO Gift Cards or to learn how CITGO and local organizations are making a difference, visit www.FuelingGood.com.
