DETROIT, June 11, 2012 / 3BL Media / PRNewswire/ -- After more than 13 years of producing the Davison Elementary in-school broadcast known as "Good Morning, Davison!", local educators Judy Robinson and Tony Shopinski are preparing for retirement. But before the school year ends, the teachers are working to make their remaining newscasts more memorable with special guest Elizabeth Wertenberger, the reigning Miss Michigan. While helping to anchor the news broadcast on June 6, Miss Wertenberger not only promoted learning but also recognized the contributions of Ms. Robinson and Mr. Shopinski. After the broadcast, she visited with the students and answered questions about her experience in reaching her goals.

"It's so important for these children to understand that dreams can come true with hard work and dedication," said Judy Robinson, kindergarten teacher at Davison Elementary. "I've worked with so many children throughout the years who don't yet understand their infinite potential. Having support from the folks at CITGO and, of course, learning about the success that Miss Michigan has achieved, helps inspire these students and encourages them to set their goals high."

This was the second visit to Davison in the past month, as Miss Wertenberger read to the students and distributed 500 free books on May 16. The school was so impressed with her genuine love for the children and promoting literacy that the Detroit Public Schools' Department of State & Federal Programs asked CITGO and Miss Wertenberger to return to the school on June 6 to anchor the news.

"Education is one of the main pillars in our efforts to reach out to our local communities, so we find it very rewarding to work with the students at Davison Elementary," said Alan Flagg, general manager of light oils marketing for CITGO. "Furthermore, CITGO is honored to be Fueling Good in Detroit with the support of Miss Michigan and it is our hope that these visits will help the children learn to work hard and dream big."
