Sustainability Report 2015

Sustainability Report 2015

At Sappi, we recognize that strong, sustainable companies don't merely manage against quarterly financial targets—they invest in the people they employ, they make commitments to protect the planet from the wasteful use of natural resources and they have a clear vision to achieve profitable growth and prosperity for current and future generations.

Sappi has a demonstrated track record of managing against all three pillars of sustainability, environmental, social and economic responsibility. In 2005 we established one of the first ever sustainability charters in our industry.

We work each and every day at manufacturing, distributing and disposing of our products, from each of our core business units, in responsible and sustainable ways. We are committed to helping all of our partners across the supply chain —from suppliers to customers—understand the true footprint of our business so that they can trust that when they do business with us, they are doing business with the leader in the industry.

Increased lime kiln capacity at the Cloquet Mill increased internal recycling of lime mud and decreased overall chemical consumption and waste to landfill. Higher use of natural gas at the Somerset Mill drove lower waste to landfill from ash generated during the combustion of biomass....

Sappi’s Key Performance Indicators: Lowering Emissions to Lessen Carbon Footprint
Next up in our series about key performance indicators: emissions. Sappi North America operates well below permitted emissions levels associated with on-site energy production in our combined heat and power plants. Overall, our performance in 2015 against these key emissions metrics was in line with 2014. Improvements at our Westbrook and Somerset mills resulted in lower particulate...
