GM Student Corps Paints the Town – And More

DETROIT, August 19, 2015 /3BL Media/ – Pontiac High School students returning to classes this week are being greeted by a new, massive “PHOENIX PRIDE” sign that represents more than the school’s mascot. Ten of their classmates helped refurbish several areas of Pontiac this summer as members of the GM Student Corps.

The General Motors Student Corps members and mentors at Cody High School in Detroit, Michigan. The GM Student Corps provides high school students with paid internships and the opportunity to give back to their neighborhoods through community improvement projects they plan and complete. Mentored by GM retirees, college interns from the University of Detroit Mercy and the University of Michigan-Flint, and GM volunteers, the students receive job training, college preparation, professional and career development skills, leadership and life lessons. GM Student Corps Inspire Communities and Themselves

Chevrolet on Thursday donated a 2013 Tahoe SUV to the Union Beach, N.J., Emergency Medical Services station, building on a relationship started in December when volunteers from General Motors joined with other Habitat for Humanity volunteers to help with Hurricane Sandy disaster recover at the EMS station and nearby fire station. The General Motors Foundation on Thursday donated $1 million to Habitat to help with urban rebuilding efforts in 12 U.S. cities.
