The Evolution of Prepaid Phone Packaging
In 2013, we made changes to our prepaid phone packaging by removing the old material – a polystyrene plastic cushion – and replacing it with molded pulp, an easily recyclable material made from renewable sources. Both the paper and the plastic used in the packaging incorporated a closed-loop recycling and zero-waste production process.

Let Your Geek Flag Fly
“I created this app in a weekend.” “I used several of AT&T’s APIs.” “I coded in C++.” “I used Linux.”

Along with tables filled with empty Red Bull cans and people in pink onesies, those are just parts of conversations we heard this past weekend at the 2016 AT&T Developers Summit and Hackathon held in Las Vegas prior to International CES. To those who are not hackers (like us), the experience was definitely intriguing.

Sustainability in the Supply Chain Starts With our Employees
At AT&T, sustainability is a bedrock value and we are always exploring ways to ensure it is embedded across the organization. In supply chain, we have hundreds of managers who source and distribute numerous products and services to meet our customers’ needs and ensure our operations run smoothly. We engage and educate those managers to make sure sustainability is integrated into those operations.

The Path After Paris and the Power of Technology
On December 12, the COP21 climate summit in Paris culminated in an historic agreement that was unanimously adopted by 195 nations. The agreement was the result of two weeks of intense negotiations between almost every country on the planet. Years of effort from government, business and civil society fueled the momentum for a substantive and strong international accord. Having successfully achieved that goal, the hard work now begins.

A Look Back as We Race Forward
2015 was a big year.

It’s the year the Internet of Things (IoT) got some ink in the dictionary. It’s the year IoT and the technology that fuels it began truly transforming our daily lives and environment. And it’s the year AT&T established a major goal using that technology to enhance the world we all share.

COP21: This Time, It’s Different
“This time it’s different.”

That’s a theme I am hearing quite a lot here in Paris in the midst of the COP 21 climate change conference. There is a sense that, despite this being yet another international meeting to discuss how we can tackle the common challenge of global climate change, this time it will be different. This time we will make meaningful progress. We’ve heard that before. So why is “this time” different?

Behind AT&T’s 10x Return-on-Carbon Commitment
This week, AT&T announced its goal to enable carbon savings 10 times the carbon footprint of its operations by 2025. That’s an impressive commitment to be sure. In fact, it very well might be a B-hag (Big, Hairy, Audacious Goal). I love to see companies make these big goals. The real problems we’re trying to solve with sustainability don’t necessarily have answers yet, and it’s a bold company who will make a public goal they don’t yet have a plan to meet.

Connect to Good: A Roadmap to 2025
Our world will hold roughly 8 billion people by 2025. Even more astounding: some experts say there will be more than 1 trillion connected devices — measuring, analyzing and networking to give us more information than ever before. The possibilities will be endless, so we must be strategic in order to seize them.

AT&T Commits to Goal Accelerating Technology’s Role in Reducing Carbon Emissions
AT&T* today announced its goal to enable carbon savings 10 times the footprint of its operations by 2025. By enhancing the efficiency of its network and delivering low-carbon customer solutions, AT&T supports the use of technology as a method to address and reduce carbon emissions.

On the VERGE of Something Big
For the second year in a row, I’ve attended a conference powered by an alternative energy microgrid. When you think of business conferences being “off the grid”, this isn’t usually what comes to mind. However, if you put sustainability and tech folks together in the Bay Area, thinking outside the box is encouraged, and going off the grid from a conference ballroom suddenly looks much different.
