Local Students, CITGO Volunteers Join Forces in 41st Street Beach Cleanup in Chicago

For the third consecutive year, in conjunction with the Chicago Parks Foundation and the Alliance for the Great Lakes, CITGO sponsored a Mid-Coast Cleanup as a part of its Caring for Our Coast initiative. Earlier this fall, students from King College Prep and the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences joined volunteers from the CITGO Lemont Refinery for a cleanup project at the 41st Street Beach in Chicago. In a one-mile area, the group collected 94.9 pounds of trash in just a few hours. The most abundant items picked up were cigarette butts and plastic water bottles.

The grass is dying, everything is turning brown, and HP doesn’t seem to be doing anything about it. In one sense, they’re right. HP is allowing things to die off. But it’s not due to neglect.
