Caterpillar Inc. and SunSelect Produce, Inc. today announced a strategic collaboration that will take the waste products of Caterpillar’s combined heat and power cogeneration facility in Mossville, Illinois, and put them to productive use in SunSelect hydroponic greenhouses. The greenhouse is expected to utilize excess thermal energy and carbon dioxide from ATPS’s natural gas fired turbines. The agreement is subject to regulatory approvals, satisfactory due diligence, permitting and closing conditions.

For those of us with access to fresh, healthy food, it’s hard to imagine that many families are food insecure, meaning they lack reliable access to adequate amounts of nutritious food. In some cases, they lack access to any food at all.
In 2013, we made changes to our prepaid phone packaging by removing the old material – a polystyrene plastic cushion – and replacing it with molded pulp, an easily recyclable material made from renewable sources. Both the paper and the plastic used in the packaging incorporated a closed-loop recycling and zero-waste production process.
