Track #2 - Technical: Strategic Approaches and Resources for Integrating Sustainability

In this session, you’ll hear about AIAG Greenhouse Gas (GHG) workgroup activities to help automotive companies with carbon reporting and reduction. Speakers from supplier and government agencies will share their perspectives on the value of practical GHG reductions in logistics.

B. Lee Kindberg, Ph.D., is director, Environment & Sustainability, for Maersk Line in North America. She co-chairs the EPA Ports work group and serves on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Air Act Advisory Committee. She is also active in Business for Social Responsibility’s Clean Cargo Working Group, a global group dedicated to assessing and improving the environmental impact of shipping. Dr. Kindberg received her bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Alabama and a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of South Carolina. She has an extensive background in the chemical industry, where she was Director of Government Relations & Environmental Science for the Hoechst Celanese (HCC) Fibers & Specialty Chemicals Groups. She managed environmental, health and safety for a major chemical manufacturing facility, was active in national and state industry groups, and served on the boards of several state chemical and industry associations.

Erik Herzog, an environmental scientist with the Environmental Protection Agency, has been with the EPA Office of Transportation and Air Quality for 27 years, and has been working with SmartWay for the last nine years. He has worked on development of the SmartWay partner tools and on many aspects of program evaluation, including data quality, emissions reduction benefits, and harmonizing SmartWay methodologies with international carbon footprinting protocols. He has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Bethany College, and a master’s in natural resource policy from the University of Michigan.
