As a restaurant company, Darden cannot ignore the reality that millions of people need food. Nearly 50 million Americans — including 16 million children — are at risk of hunger, and not just today on Hunger Action Day.

Rebuilding Together, a leading national nonprofit in safe and healthy housing that provides low-income homeowners with critical home repairs, will join together with its affiliate, Rebuilding Together Northeast Ohio, to lead its sixth annual Building a Healthy Neighborhood community revitalization project in Cleveland, Ohio. The effort will be held Sept. 23-24, 2016 in Slavic Village, a historic neighborhood on the southeast side of Cleveland. The effort is expected to provide nearly $700,000 in market value back to the community.

Today, the new resource for the social good movement, the Champions for Social Good Podcast hosted by Jamie Serino, Director of Marketing at MicroEdge + Blackbaud, launched and is available online and for download on mobile devices. Through the Champions for Social Good Podcast, Jamie brings together thought leaders and practitioners to share key learnings and inspire change to further the social good movement.

A person's identity is closely tied to the social role they hold. Having valued social roles can have a great impact on a person's life. Too often, people with disabilities find themselves thrust into deeply devalued roles that continue to marginalize them.

I recently volunteered at a Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy event, supported by VSP Global. My most memorable patient was a fifth-grade girl who never had an eye exam. She was uncorrected at 20/200 in each eye. After the exam, I witnessed her seeing clearly for the first time. Her reaction? An ear-to-ear smile.
