April 27, 2018 marks the 146th celebration of Arbor Day. A holiday established in 1872 in Nebraska City to inspire people to plant trees, it became a national holiday in 1972. To help people across the country get more easily involved in celebrating the country's first environmental holiday, the Arbor Day Foundation has launched celebratearborday.com.

Holly Emerson, senior analyst, Center for Energy Efficacy and Sustainability at Ingersoll Rand, joined other North Carolina industry leaders in a “We Are Still In” regional panel discussion at the ClimateCon 2018, Business of Climate Forum. The discussion explored the importance of being “still in,” and how deep collaboration between stakeholders and the We Are Still In network helps everyone achieve their own climate goals through expertise and resources.

Keep America Beautiful, the nation’s iconic community improvement nonprofit organization, today announced the awarding of grant funding to 42 communities as part of its Cigarette Litter Prevention Program. In addition, new marketing resources will be unveiled later this spring to help grant recipients and participating organizations spread the word in the fight to combat cigarette litter, the leading form of litter in America.

The Arbor Day Foundation has announced today that Plant-for-the Planet has been awarded the Foundation’s Spirit of Arbor Day Award which recognizes an organization or community that fulfills the Foundation's mission of inspiring people to plant, nurture and celebrate trees through programs and activities that have been implemented within the past five years. The award will be presented at Plant-for-the Planet’s global youth summit in Monaco on Friday, March 9, 2018.

The Arbor Day Foundation has announced today that the City of San Francisco and the Friends of the Urban Forest have been awarded the Foundation’s Champion of Trees Award which recognizes a government entity, community-based organization or partnership among such groups that has demonstrated exemplary leadership to develop and implement new policies and practices for municipal tree planting and care, natural area stewardship or arboriculture.

So it was remarkable when, after reading The Ecology of Commerce in 1994, carpet manufacturer Ray Anderson set out to clean up his petroleum-intensive operation and succeeded in cutting net carbon emissions by more than 80 percent.

The City of LaGrange, GA is looking to make a good first impression on the 500,000 plus visitors who are expected to drive through the city on The Ray starting this spring.

Regreening Africa aims to accelerate the adoption of farmer-managed natural regeneration and other agroforestry practices, with a goal of 500,000 households managing 1 million regreened hectares in just five years. In Ethiopia, the target for 2022 is to have regreened 200,000 hectares managed by 120,000 households.
