Candice Au-Yeung is a civil engineer and assistant project manager at Tetra Tech. She specializes in site-civil and pipeline design and planning for municipal combined sewer overflow programs. Laurence Esguerra earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Irvine in civil engineering with an emphasis in water and wastewater. Laurence interned with Tetra Tech as a student and joined our Irvine office after graduating in 2003. As a project manager and technical lead, he focuses on water and recycled water infrastructure. He manages design and implementation of water and recycled water capital improvement projects for local municipalities. When preschool teacher Tonya Langston first asked the children in her Bowling Green, Florida, classroom where milk came from, their response was: "the kitchen." When she asked them where a banana comes from, same answer: "the kitchen." Langston's students are young—3 or 4 years old—but because they're the children of professional migrant farmworkers, Langston and her fellow teachers wanted to teach them more about what their parents do, and why it's important. The East Coast Migrant Head Start Project is part of a nationwide program made possible by the Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation, designed to help children and families living in at-risk communities access fresh, healthy food.

The City of Los Angeles recognized Tetra Tech for its work on the civil engineering design of the Albion Riverside Park in Los Angeles, California. The City presented Tetra Tech’s project team with a certificate of recognition as part of the ribbon cutting ceremony for the park in March 2019. Tetra Tech’s work included pre-design, civil engineering design, and construction support services for the project.

Twelve rare juvenile Blanding’s Turtles hatched from incubated eggs were released today back into a turtle-friendly habitat created for them near Saginaw by Consumers Energy employees.

The eggs, two adults and a juvenile Blanding’s Turtle were rescued in 2018 from along the path of Consumers Energy’s Saginaw Trail Pipeline. The adults were moved to a safe location, where they laid 12 eggs that were incubated, hatched and raised by the company’s contract herpetologist over the winter. The juveniles are now large enough to be released.

Priyanka Varshney is an electrical engineer-in-training working on nuclear energy at Tetra Tech and based in Pickering, Ontario. With her interest in clean energy, she enjoys exploring opportunities to bring advancements to the energy sector and spark conversations with industry experts about technological impacts on the sector.

Keep America Beautiful®, the nation’s leading community improvement nonprofit organization, today announced it has awarded 50 grants to Keep America Beautiful community-based affiliates and partner organizations for its 2019 Cigarette Litter Prevention Program® (CLPP), designed to help communities combat the most commonly littered item in America.

As part of the Los Cerritos Watershed Management Plan, the City of Lakewood, California, selected Tetra Tech to provide preliminary engineering, design services, and construction support services for the stormwater and runoff capture project in Bolivar Park.

Bolivar Park currently uses potable water for all irrigation needs. The City is implementing a smart regional stormwater best management practice that results in water quality improvements in the Los Cerritos channel, enables stormwater infiltration, and provides an alternate water supply for the park’s irrigation needs.

I have an unusual box of cereal in my pantry—the first of a kind, you might say. The manufacturer, organic foods brand Cascadian Farm, claims that kernza, the grain that is the key ingredient in its Honey Toasted Kernza Cereal, helps store carbon, protect water resources and prevent soil erosion. With talk like that, kernza has a lot to answer for.
