Wells Fargo to Donate $1 Billion to Address Housing Affordability Crisis

The Company, through its business and the Wells Fargo Foundation, will use its resources and expertise to develop new ideas and implement solutions in communities of need in collaboration with public- and private-sector organizations. In particular, Wells Fargo will commit $1 billion in philanthropy alone through 2025 to address the U.S. housing affordability crisis, including homelessness, available and affordable rentals, transitional housing and home ownership.

Supporting Entrepreneurship with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund

At Koch, we believe in everyone’s ability to become a lifelong learner and succeed while helping others. Through these virtuous cycles of mutual benefit, we have seen first-hand how people can improve their lives and help those around them do the same. That’s why Koch Industries, along with the Charles Koch Foundation, is supporting the Hispanic Scholarship Fund’s new Entrepreneurship Summit in 2019 and 2020. Scholars selected for the four-day, experiential conference will learn how to apply an entrepreneurial mindset to improve their lives and to chart a course for success in all they do.

GLIDE’s annual eBay for Charity Auction for a Power Lunch with Warren Buffett, sold to the highest bidder for $4,567,888.The record-breaking sale coincides with the 20th anniversary of the legendary auction, which to date has provided over $30 million to support GLIDE’s comprehensive suite of social services that help San Francisco’s most vulnerable residents. Justin Sun, founder of blockchain platform TRON and CEO of peer-to-peer streaming leader BitTorrent, is this year’s winner. Sun and up to seven invited guests get to attend a private lunch with Buffett at Smith & Wollensky Steakhouse in New York City.

Northland Workforce Training Center Receives $560,000 in National Grid Grants, Donation

National Grid is a longtime supporter of developing the workforce of the future. The most recent example of these efforts is working with Northland Workforce Training Center to achieve its remediation targets at its 683 Northland Ave. headquarters and training facility. The training center opened last year in a building located on about 35 acres in an historic manufacturing district on Buffalo’s East Side. Prior to doing so, Northland needed to redevelop the building and nearby streetscape.

Breaking Barriers in STEM with National Grid

Girls Inc. of Worcester is one of six Girls Inc. affiliates that participates in Girls Inc. and National Grid’s innovative STEM partnership. Since 2011, National Grid has generously provided funding to support impactful STEM programming and experiences to thousands of girls in the Northeast. Gardening Gives the Kids of Migrant Workers a Head Start

When preschool teacher Tonya Langston first asked the children in her Bowling Green, Florida, classroom where milk came from, their response was: "the kitchen." When she asked them where a banana comes from, same answer: "the kitchen." Langston's students are young—3 or 4 years old—but because they're the children of professional migrant farmworkers, Langston and her fellow teachers wanted to teach them more about what their parents do, and why it's important. The East Coast Migrant Head Start Project is part of a nationwide program made possible by the Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation, designed to help children and families living in at-risk communities access fresh, healthy food.

Merck Foundation Announces Grant to American Cancer Society to Improve Access to Cancer Care in Resource-Limited Settings

The Merck Foundation (the Foundation) and the American Cancer Society (ACS) recently announced that the Foundation awarded a $1.99 million, five-year grant to ACS to improve support and access to care for people living with cancer in low-and-middle-income countries, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. This funding will help ACS further develop its capacity development approach to expanding patient navigation to countries with a growing burden of cancer.
