Fighting Poverty

Today, Walmart launches its “Fight Hunger. Spark Change.” campaign, a nationwide initiative that encourages the public to join the fight against hunger. Working with Discover card and five suppliers, which represent some of the nation’s leading food companies – Campbell Soup Company, General Mills, Kellogg Company, The Kraft Heinz Company and PepsiCo – Walmart is offering three easy ways to take action against hunger and help a local Feeding America food bank through social, online and in-store participation.

Thread is bringing transparency and fair treatment back into apparel by producing fabrics transformed from plastic bottles found in the streets of some of the poorest communities on the planet.

Families with fewer financial resources are more likely to experience unsafe, unhealthy housing. When dealing with limited resources, food and medicine come before housing repairs.

Poor housing conditions can negatively impact the health of those inside – especially children. Get involved during National Rebuilding Month.

“The State of the Movement is strong,” declared Montez Holton, a junior at East St. Louis Senior High School, referring to the East Side Aligned collective impact “movement” in East St. Louis, IL. Working across sectors and organizations, the East St. Louis community has come together to help young people feel safe and secure in their community, be ready to succeed in school and work and empower them to create change.

During #RebuildingMonth, Rebuilding Together affiliates are planning to complete over 1,700 rebuilding projects, including homes and community centers across the country.

A group of 40 Sands China Care Ambassadors volunteered their time in February at Macau Holy House of Mercy’s Welfare Shop, helping distribute over 350 food hampers to disadvantaged families, sending them New Year’s blessings for the Year of the Rooster. The event marks the fifth consecutive year of Sands China Ltd.’s support, which also included a donation of MOP 300,000 presented by Sands China President Dr. Wilfred Wong to help needy families facing financial hardships. The food hampers contained items like rice, noodles, biscuits, canned food, cooking oil, toothpaste, and shower gel.

Rebuilding Together, a leading national nonprofit in safe and healthy housing that provides homeowners in need with critical home repairs, will host its annual National Rebuilding Month this April. Nearly 40,000 volunteers will serve in more than 1,600 affiliate-led rebuild projects across the country throughout National Rebuilding Month.
