Microfinance provides opportunities for borrowers to start and reinvest in businesses; generate income; and carve their own pathways out of poverty. But the path isn’t always so smooth. Poor households are especially vulnerable to economic shocks, ranging from common situations like illness and death in the family, to exceptional crises like health epidemics, natural disasters, and political instability.

Last year for National Rebuilding Month, 148 of the 1,942 rebuilding projects were completed for community facilities and spaces, which collectively impacted 100,000 people across the country.

Early childhood development can be significantly impeded by an unsafe or unhealthy environment. Rebuilding Together affiliates nationwide gather volunteers to tackle such issues for families with young children.

JPMorgan Chase & Co. today released its annual Corporate Responsibility report, highlighting the firm’s model for impact, which combines business and philanthropic resources to drive inclusive economic growth. The report features JPMorgan Chase’s $100 million investment in Detroit’s economic recovery, the firm’s most comprehensive initiative to date, as a proof of concept for how the firm’s model can effectively make a meaningful impact in communities around the world.

Many social enterprises focus on innovation of high-quality products designed to reach low-income customers. By the numbers, this bottom of the pyramid strategy to reach impact and market at scale seems to make sense – analysis of World Bank data from 2011 shows that 71% of the world’s population can be considered poor or low-income.

National Rebuilding Month will culminate on National Rebuilding Day, Saturday April, 29 and will engage volunteers in a concerted effort to complete repairs on homes, nonprofit facilities and community spaces to bring immediate, transformational change to communities across America on the same day.

Thanks to nearly 43,000 volunteers, Rebuilding Together completed over 1,900 home and community projects during National Rebuilding Month in 2016. Be a part of the impact this year!
